In business since 1986, the company originally began as Ramadan Meat and Seafood, Inc., the first halal meat market in Minnesota. The company's founder, Imam Matthew Ramadan, was also the first USDA approved halal certifier in the the state of Minnesota. In 2001, Imam Ramadan, was instrumental in providing expert testimony over a number of months before the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate on halal food certification. His efforts resulted in getting legislation passed protecting the production and sale of halal foods in the state of Minnesota, making Minnesota only the second state in the country to pass such legislation.
